The Arctic Circle is constantly moving and touches the Northernmost part of Iceland, the island Grimsey. On the island one can find 3 century stones showing where the Arctic circle was around Summer solstice in 1717, 1817 and 1917.
The artwork "Orbis et Globus" was inaugurated on the Arctic Circle in Grímsey Island in the fall of 2017, a new symbol for the Arctic Circle a 3-meter sphere which is meant to be moved around the north end of the island in accordance with current movement of the Arctic Circle. At that same occasion three stones were placed where the Arctic Circle was on each century after it arrived the island. One at the southernmost point in 1717, one by the community house where it was around 1817 and finally north of the Guesthouse Básar in 1917.
