Our Fantasy department has been deservedly raising much attention.
The beloved author and actor Ævar Þór Benediktsson said in an interview with the webpage (in February 2022) that „the Municipal Library has the best comic book department in the country and farther.“ We thank him for these kind words and sincerely want people to be able to know more about the department, which daily is called Fantasy department.
Its supervisor is Hörður Ingi Stefánsson and library guests will get a treat by asking him about science fiction and everything else in the department. It is roughly divided into three parts: science fiction, comic books for adults and then Manga-books. The sci-fi books are categorized alphabetically by authors' names, comic books by the name of the series (Garfield, Spider-Man, Superman ... etc.) and for convenience purposes we have split the „rivals“ DC and Marvel into two smaller parts. The Manga books are also categorized by name of series.
Many popular movies and TV series based on sci-fi books, fantasies and comic books for adults. „The book is better...“ is regularily heard in this matter and because of that we try to have a great variety of books, as in other departments in the library. Frank Herbert, George R.R. Martin, Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Tite Kubo and many more benefit from their books being filmed because these are very popular authors today.
Other authors that have seen their works filmed are Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams And Andrzej Sapkowski. Since we mentioned Andrzej, the author of the Witcher-books, it should be noted or the funny fact mentioned that the actor Henry Cavill played the title role in the Witcher-series (at least in seasons 1-3) on Netflix (his character is named Geralt but usually called Witcher). Henry has also played the role of Superman who's created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, and Henry was also seen several times in the movie Stardust which is based on the book by Neil Gaiman.
What actor do you think has played the most roles that have been created in works that can be found in the Fantasy department?
Check this department out ... seriously! You won't be disappointed!
