If you have a library card with The Municipal Library of Akureyri, you have free access to the e-library Rafbókasafnið, https://rafbokasafnid.overdrive.com/, which has a large collection of e-books and audiobooks, including crime, romance, adventure, biographies, recipes, and self-help
To connect to the E-library with a smartphone, you start by downloading an app either OverDrive or Libby. It is possible to use the Electronic Library through a web browser on a computer, tablet, or smartphone. It is not necessary to download any programs for this.
You need a valid library card and password (the same as on amt.leitir.is, please note that you can not use the digital certificate at the e-library like you can on amt.leitir.is).
If you do not have a password or don’t remember it, please request assistance from a member of staff at the reception desk or log in at amt.leitir.is with your digital certificate or Ice Key and update your personal details.
You log in to the Electronic Library with the barcode number on your library card (begins with GE...) and password (that password can only include numbers and letters, no symbols).
You can choose whether to borrow a book for 7, 14 or 21 days.
You can borrow 5 books at once and reserve 7.
A book that has been borrowed is automatically returned at the end of the loan period, so there is no risk of daily fines. It is also possible to return earlier.
If you want to read or listen without being connected to the Internet, you need to get the Libby app, the OverDrive app or the Adobe Digital Editions program and download the book.
If nobody has reserved the book, you can extend your loan. That possibility opens 72 hours before it is automatically returned.
Libby is a new app from OverDrive. Libby is available for all major smart devices and can be obtained from the Play Store (Android), App Store (IOS) and from Microsoft (Windows 10).
You can learn more about the app at https://meet.libbyapp.com/.
