The Municipal Library of Akureyri is one of the largest libraries in Iceland. It is an open, welcoming, family friendly place, committed to build an informed and thriving community.
No matter if you are visiting Akureyri or are planning on staying here, you are always welcome to drop by the library. The library's staff is ready to help you find books, movies, music and more!
Well over 400 people come visiting each day and the circulation now surpasses 215.000 items a year.

Mondays: 8:15-19:00 (Self service until 10 am)

You will find us at Brekkugata 17, located just above the only liquor store in town and Borgarbíó movie theatre (click here for a map of the location).
We offer:
- An excellent collection of 70.000 materials including books, DVDs, and audio books, newspapers, and magazines
- 2 public Internet stations and an open Wi-Fi for use with your own computer/device.
- A variety of programs for children, including Preschool Story time, a summer reading program, and special events scheduled throughout the year.
In addition we offer:
- Interlibrary loan
- A small gift shop
- Ongoing book sale
- A gallery
- Space for events and meetings
